Lifeguard Classes

The Y offers American Red Cross Lifeguard Classes with a Blended Format

Blended Learning Course

In this blended learning class candidates must complete each step in order to move on to the next step:

Pre-test: Contact Payton Woodall pwoodall@spencerymca.org to sign up for pre-test or if unable to attend scheduled pretest sign up for a time to complete it.

Pre-test includes:

  • Swim 300 yards
  • Tread water for two minutes using legs only
  • Retrieve a 10 pound object from a depth of 9 feet and tow it for 25 yards
  • Turn 15 years old by the last day of class
  • Candidates MUST complete all components of the Pre-test in order to be accepted into the rest of the program

7 hours of online/video learning BEFORE the scheduled in-person CLASS TIMES

16 hours of in person class hours

CPR, AED, First Aid

Would you know what to do in a cardiac, breathing or first aid emergency? The right answer could help you save a life. With an emphasis on hands-on learning, our First Aid/CPR/AED courses give you the skills to save a life. All course options align with OSHA’s Best Practices for Workplace First Aid Training Programs and are available in classroom and blended learning formats. Certification is issued upon successful completion. Free online refreshers are available with all course options.

Course length: From 2 hours to 5 hours, depending on course option.

2 year certification

Course options:

  • First Aid: Learn how to respond to common first aid emergencies, including burns; cuts; head, neck and back injuries and more. Pediatric option available.
  • CPR/AED Learn how to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies in adults, including the use of automated external defibrillators (AED). Adult and pediatric options available.
  • Review Renew your First Aid/CPR/AED certification in an abbreviated class session. Current certification is required.
