Meet our team who are leading the YMCA into the future.
Nathan Prenzlow, CEO
Nathan Prenzlow, CEO, is a Nebraska native. He graduated from Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska with a degree in Sports Management. Nathan began his Y career in the Spring of 2002 as a Sports Director. He later obtained his Y organizational Leadership certification and has lead Y's in Blair, Nebraska, Mifflin & Adamstown, Pennsylvania, Reading Pennsylvania and most recently the Spencer Family YMCA since 2013. Nathan is married to his wife Christy and has three children; Campbell, Marley and Mila. Nathan is an avid Huskers fan, loves to golf and to spend time with his family.
Erin Elliott, Director of Dance & Gymnastics
Born and raised in the Okoboji area, Erin started her dancing career at the late age of 13; however that didn't stop her from blossoming. She joined her high school dance team earning Rookie of the Year, MVP and became captain within her first two years. Erin was also a member of the Emmetsburg Dance team through Impulse Dance Academy where she also studied numerous styles of dance such as hip-hop, ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and pointe. Erin also instructed classes at Impulse for seven years. Erin taught for a year at DanzArts Academy in Des Moines and Amy's School of Dance in Winterset. Over the years she has attended numerous master and convention classes and choreographed solo and group routines for pageants, studios, schools and community events. Erin started working as the Director of Dance & Gymnastics at the Spencer Family YMCA in 2016 and has since been re-certified in Zumba / Zumba Gold and Progressing Ballet Technique as well. Erin has a strong passion for dance and wants to share her love and knowledge with all of her students. She is married to her husband Brandon, they have 4 kids and a chocolate lab named Ranger.
Paige Gaedke, Program Director/Marketing Director
Paige Gaedke graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor's degree in Leisure, Youth and Human Services in 2013. Paige's love for the YMCA began after she worked 3 summers at the Des Moines YCamp. She began working with us at the Spencer Family YMCA in the summer of 2016 as our Youth Program Director, she is also our Marketing Director. Paige is a huge fan of the Iowa State Cyclones and a lover of dogs! In her free time Paige enjoys spending time with her friends, playing sports, reading, being outdoors and playing with her dogs Zola and Clooney.
Ben O'Clair, Property Manager
Ben O'Clair graduated from Spencer High School in 1997. He worked full time for Shoppers Supply until spring of 1998, he then went to work for Midwestern Mechanical for 9 years. After that Ben began his own plumbing company for 4 years. He started working maintenance for Spencer Community Schools in the winter of 2010. In December of 2015 Ben was hired as the Property Director at the Spencer Family YMCA. Ben is married with two kids and has two dogs. He has also been a Firefighter/EMT with the Spencer Fire Department since 2007. He also enjoys fishing with his family.
Amy Kuehler, Childcare Director
Amy Kuehler graduated from Buena Vista University with a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science/Sports Management, and a minor in Coaching. She has been with us at the Spencer Family YMCA for 9 years. Amy started out with an internship in 2010. The first few years she spent most of her time personal training, teaching classes, working with the park program and in our infant room. Amy then moved on to assisting the Director in Childcare, directing our School Age Childcare and teaching preschool. She is currently our Childcare Director. Amy loves working at the Y because she gets to spend her day doing what she loves, helping the kids develop and seeing them grow and learn new things. Amy and her husband Nate have three children Kale, Maggie and Charlee. They also have two dogs, Tank and Minnie.
Megan Whitaker, Director of Operations
Megan Birkenholtz Whitaker began her YMCA experience as a young person at the Newton YMCA as a member of the swimming and diving team. She graduated in 1987 from Monroe High School and later from William Penn University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Human Services and Recreation and a minor in Sociology. Her first professional job at the YMCA was in 1993 at the downtown Y in Omaha as the Aquatics Director. In 1996 she began her long career at the Spencer Family YMCA as Aquatics Director. Since then she has managed most every department and program at some point. She enjoys her co-workers and the relationships she has formed with the members and community over the years. Megan and her husband Scott, have three children Rowan, Grayson and Carys. They also have two dogs, Cedar and Hollis. Megan enjoys her family and friends, animals, reading, gardening, swimming, dancing and all things outdoors.
Wendy McMullen, Business Services Director
Wendy was raised in Huxley Iowa, she attended Ballard High School and played softball which she still enjoys watching. Wendy attended DMACC in Ankeny, IA where she received an Associated degree in administrative assistant. Wendy began her career at the Spencer Family YMCA in 2003 in the school age childcare department. Wendy has two daughters and has been married four years to her husband Chris. She enjoys her family, her dog Jax, reading and spending time at the lakes.
Erica Buum, Child Care Assistant
Erica Buum graduated from the Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, NE with an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education. Erica worked at home for 4 years as a Family Childcare provider for military families and has spent 5 years working for the DoDEA school district. She started with us at the Spencer Family YMCA in the summer of 2019. Erica is our School Age Assistant Director and 3 year old Preschool teacher. She and her husband Tony have two children, Ava and Jaxson.
Amanda Shaffer, CFO
Amanda moved to Northwest Iowa from Omaha, NE, where she worked in public accounting for Deloitte. She earned her BSBA and MPA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and holds an active CPA license. Originally from Sioux Falls, Amanda's Y story began attending Camp Leif Ericson and Camp Tepeetonka as well as participating in YMCA youth sports. She was also a camper at Camp Foster in Okoboji, so she is excited to be back full time as the Y's Chief Financial Officer, splitting her time between both YMCA of the Okoboji's and the Spencer Family YMCA. In her free time, Amanda serves on several local non-profit boards and enjoys spending time with her family on the lake.
Felica Dusing, Aquatics Director
Felica Dusing graduated from Newell-Fonda High School in 2008. Her love for all things aquatic started as a young child. She has been a certified lifeguard since 2004, working as a lifeguard at Kings Pointe Waterpark and various community pools. Before beginning her career with the Spencer Family YMCA, she served as a paraeducator at Sioux Central for 7 years, managed the pool in Sioux Rapids and most recently, supervised the aquatics program with Camp Autumn over the past 3 years. Felica lives on an acreage north of Sioux Rapids with her boyfriend, Cody, their daughter, McKenna and their dog Atticus. In her free time, Felica enjoys spending time with her family, baking and decorating baked goods, lounging on the couch, being outdoors gardening, as well as spending time on the farm with her dogs, chickens, ducks and farm cats. Additionally, during the summer months, she can be found spending time in/around water swimming, fishing, boating and kayaking. Felica is looking forward to growing in her role as the Aquatics Director, as well as forming relationships with her community members, coworkers and members of the Spencer Family YMCA.
Brittany Vite, 4 Year Old Preschool Teacher
Brittany Vite graduated from South Dakota State University in 2011 with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health and Recreation. She started teaching preschool in 2014 at Stateline Family YMCA in Beloit, WI. She has also taken many other roles during her Y career including supervising after school care sites & coaching youth sports. Her family moved back to her hometown of Spirit Lake in 2020 after living in Wisconsin for 7 years. She is continuing her career with the YMCA as the 4 year old preschool teacher. She and her husband have three children named Leah, Emeline & Noah. In her free time, she likes to spend time at the farm and travel to visit new exciting places.
Jasmin Cole, Office Manager
Jasmin is a California transplant from a small town in the mountains of California called Pollock Pines. Jasmin graduated from El Dorado High School in 2003. Jasmin moved from California to Iowa to be with her grandma. Jasmin worked as an Office Manager for Spencer Drywall for 6 years then started nursing school and worked with special needs and elderly clients for many years. Jasmin lives in Spencer with her boyfriend, Patrick, her 3 children, Calvin, Kyndra and Angel, their 2 rescue dogs and their 3 rescue cats. In her free time Jasmin can be found on the river fishing, hiking, kayaking, and camping when the weather is nice or painting, watching movie marathons, playing board games, or just hanging out with her family and pets when the weather is cooler.
Jesse Kuehler, Aquatics/Wellness Coordinator
Jesse is a 2011 Spencer High School graduate. In 2016, he graduated from Briar Cliff University with a Bachelors degree in Sports Management, where he was a member of the Men's Soccer team. Jesse also coaches soccer for Northwest Iowa Soccer Club, where he serves as Director of Coaching. He is also the Head Coach for the Spencer High School boys soccer team. In his free time, Jesse enjoys spending time with his family, especially his nephews, Braxton and Porter, spending time with friends and his 4 cats; Felix, Dwight, Beanz and Harold.
Madison Carpenter, School Age Coordinator
Madison Carpenter was born and raised in Spencer. She graduated from Spencer High School in 2018. Madison started working at the YMCA in Kids Club, as her first job, ever since she was 16. What Madison enjoys the most about being the School Age Coordinator is building relationships with the kids and her coworkers. She recently became the 3-year-old preschool teacher as well; she is excited for this new adventure so she can be educated in working with different age groups. You can also find her working the Middle School Dances and the Kids Night Out that we host here at the YMCA. In her free time, she likes to read books, spend time with her family and dog, Malibu, and she likes going for weekend getaways. Madison has 2 sisters and 1 brother who are also employed here at the YMCA. Madison loves to be adventurous, and she is always happy to help.
