In 1971 the Y's Men of the Spencer Family YMCA bought 8 ice cream stands..today the Y's Service Club have increased their stands to 11. So almost any direction that you go at the Fair you can have a Clay County Fair favorite - a nutty bar or two or three...or even one every day!
Locations range from the east gate to the west gate to under the Grandstand, or in the Commercial building. The stands can be recognized by the YMCA logo & Nutty Bar painted on the front.
Products at the stands include pop, water, popcorn, and of course our famous nutty bars. If you would like to volunteer, please call the Y (712.262.3782) anytime starting in August to choose your prime choice for booth and shift.
Over 400 volunteers head up the Y's Service Club stands under the supervision of 60 Y's Service Club Members. Many of you know the great work that has been done by the Y's Service Club, on behalf of the Spencer Family YMCA. Y's Service Club funds have been used to purchase equipment, finance construction and fund many programs.
Meetings are held once a month with a winter fundraiser. Our pancake breakfast is held Superbowl Sunday.
If you or your family would be interested in helping the Y's Service Club working a four hour shift or two, please contact Paige Gaedke at 712.262.3782 or at firstname.lastname@example.org
The Youth Sports Leagues (Basketball, Flag Football & Volleyball) relies on parent volunteer coaches for a successful program. Coaching is a very rewarding and fun experience for you. As a coach, you'll have the opportunity to make a positive impact in a child's life and in your community. Volunteerism is an insurmountable part of the YMCA and coaching is at the root of it.
The Y will provide you with all the resources needed to effectively lead a young team through a successful season. Coaching only requires a couple hours a week of your time. One hour for a practice that we work into your schedule and an hour for a game.
Please, consider coaching for the Youth Sports Leagues. If you're interested in becoming a volunteer youth coach, please contact Paige Gaedke, Program Director, at 712.262.3782 | email@example.com
The Aquatics Swim Lesson Program welcomes extra hands to be in the water with the children during swim lessons to assist the Swim Instructor. If you enjoy water and want to promote safe swimming you can volunteer to help! Also, this is a great opportunity for middle school students who are looking for something extra to do after school!! Students can begin volunteering for lessons at 12 years old, and that can transition into paid employment when they turn 14, and then on to lifeguarding at 15.
